Installation Guide
Watch our step-by-step video guide below to see exactly how to install your new linkage kit.
Tools Required
- Drill with 1/4" bit
- Rag and Paint Stick (to protect carburetor)
- Socket wrench with extension & 10mm socket
- 10mm wrench
- Small screw driver & Needle nose pliers
Step-by-Step Instructions
Phase 1: Preparation & Removal
- Step 1: Remove the air filter cover and the air filter element.
- Step 2-3: Remove the two 10mm nuts holding the lower air filter housing.
- Step 4-5: Unplug the breather hose and remove the fuel vent line from the housing.
- Step 6: Slide off the lower air filter housing.
(Tip: You may need to adjust the choke and fuel levers to slide it off easily.) - Step 7-9: Remove the old throttle spring, loosen the throttle lever lock nut until it moves freely, and remove the fuel tank bolt.
Phase 2: Installing the Linkage
- Step 10-11: Install the new angle bracket with the new spring using the fuel tank bolt. Attach the spring to the throttle lever arm.
- Step 12: Adjust the throttle lever arm to find the "sweet spot" where it snaps back freely when released.
- Step 13: Important: Cover your carburetor intake with a rag and insert a paint stick behind the linkage plate to protect the carb. Drill the hole shown in the video to a 1/4" size.
- Step 14-15: Install the second angle bracket using the bolt and lock nut. Do not fully tighten yet; you may need to rotate it later.
- Step 16-18: Install the conduit retainer (cable holder) into the angle bracket hole. Note: Do not over-tighten or the pot metal may break.
Phase 3: Cable Hookup & Reassembly
- Step 19-21: Install the wire swivel. This must come up from the bottom of the throttle lever arm. Be very careful not to drop this small part behind the engine shroud!
- Step 22-23: Slide your throttle cable jacket through the conduit retainer and feed the inner wire through the swivel. Tighten the wire swivel screw to lock the cable in place.
- Step 24: Put a slight bend in the throttle cable wire to ensure it doesn't pull back through under pressure.
- Step 25-30: Reinstall the lower air filter housing, nuts, fuel vent line, breather hose, and air filter assembly.
Success! Your linkage kit is now installed and ready for operation.
